Day 39: To Austin, Tx

59 miles (95 km) - Total so far: 1,599 miles (2,573 km)

The day started off with about 12 miles of hills through Buescher and Bastrop State Parks. It was great just riding through the woods, climbing and then cruising downhill.

We got into Bastrop around 10 and had some lunch at a deli. Ryan got hold of a warmshowers host in Austin, so we had about 40 more miles for the day. We ended up getting into Austin around 2:30. Our host bailed on us, so we sat around trying to find a new place to stay. Then these dark clouds start rolling in. Campground 10 miles away is our best option, so we book it. We're riding through Austin fully loaded, hauling, and all these girls on singlespeeds keep rippin by us. It was awesome. Haha. We finally setup camp and a fellow named Scott comes over to chat. Turns out he had done the Southern tier a few years back. He went back to his RV and grabbed us all a beer. It was delicious; some hawaiin porter made with kona coffee. That's called roadmagic. Totally turned our night around. We are planning to head back to the city tomorrow to hit an REI and then try to get another 30 miles down the road.

  1. Seems like yall are enjoying Texas. Sure wish we would have known you were in Austin at the same time we were, you could have stayed at our campsite with us in McKinney Falls State Park. We were there from Wednesday night until Saturday morning. Lots of things going on in Austin right now. Hope you guys are enjoying the warmer weather in Texas. Pat Grisham
